Inspired by the urge to create something outside of the usual genres and themes we were typically drawn to, Essence and Chanel began sharing ideas and concepts for future projects. A mockumentary is something neither of them had worked on, but the idea of creating something so unserious seemed like a good one. Aging was the second mockumentary idea that came to mind, and to explore the theme and its connection to Black people became the goal. Two years later, the topic was revisited and with distinct character moments already in mind, Essence proceeded to begin the screenplay of the project now known as “Old.”
We began production in late February, and after a month of planning and rehearsals – we’ve reached the post-production phase of the film. (Phew!) We are extremely excited to see the project through to completion, and would love your help in doing so.
